Yesterday started off as a bad day. Irene got up 40 minutes early. Both she and Henry have colds. She was in one of those annoying whining modes and I was less than graceful with her. (Joan-I am trying to find grace in small things now too...thank you :-) We had spilled cereal three times and a number of melt downs (not all mine). After the kids were down for naps I was doing that fun bill paying thing when the mail came. One letter...from the landlord. I groaned, we never get good letters from landlords (have had a REALLY A$$H*!# one). BUT this landlord is a true gentleman. He wrote thanking us for January's rent and that since the economy is so crappy he is taking 70 dollars off our rent for the next two months. Yes! He is LOWERING the rent!!! In April the rent will only go back up 20 dollars. That means we'll still be paying 50 dollars less than the originally agreed upon rent! I love this guy! My hubby said we needed to find out his birthday and send him a gift :-) And just so you can understand what a great deal we have...we rent a house, the entire thing, no upstairs or downstairs neighbors. Four bedrooms and a lot of space downstairs. Living room, office, big eat-in kitchen, and dining room that we use as the playroom. We really do get a great deal and our landlord is a great guy and we are able to save our pennies for college funds, vacations, and future home ownership.
The best part of all this happening was that Mark and I have been throwing around the idea of moving closer to Grand Rapids. There is a small town about twenty minutes from G.R. that is about the size of the town we live in now. All this week I have been doing research on the place and trying to get a feel for rents. I wasn't sure if this was the right thing to do and I didn't want to leave my mom alone up here. Not to mention my kids LOVE her...oh and I might miss her company too. Crazily the rents in this small town are at least double what we are paying now. Plus it would be an apartment and we wouldn't have half the space we have now. Taking all this into consideration I decided to leave it in God's hands and asked for what would be best for our family. I kinda took the 70 dollar drop in our rent to be my answer ;-)

The kiddies playing on the stairs in the snow outside our place. Burrrrr!I have to send a thank you to Shannon for finding this place for us! And I apologize for all the smiley faces and ....

I am so happy for you that the house is working. When I read that you had gotten a letter from the landlord...my heart sank...but then when you reported the good news...I was overjoyed! YAY for nice guys!
I am also happy that you are not moving...I would really miss seeing you!
That pic is adorable. It's so kewl how your landlord is being. I dont think I have ever heard anything like that before! I think it's a sign too!
Thank you ladies! Needless to say I was thrilled! And everyone I tell reacts the same...it's unheard of!
Wow, you are so lucky to have such a kind landlord. We live in a awful apartment complex in Henderson, NV. The rent is horribly high for such a small 3 bedroom. ($1438 and change per month) Nothing works right in it. The kitchen cabinets are falling off, the gas oven shuts off all the time and the fridge is just too small for a family of 7. It's all temporary, as my husbands company will be transfering us in a few months to Seattle or Portland.
Arley-
My hat is off to you raising all your kids in a 3 bedroom apartment!
Your children are adorable!
