Wow...

My husband surprised the heck outta me tonight in a very good way. We had a rough day with the kids. They were beyond crazy. After finally getting them in bed my husband turned on a song he found on YouTube. He said that he had been looking for it for days and that every time he hears it on the radio he thinks of me. Isn't that the sweetest thing ever?! We had a rough six months and yet there is no one I'd rather go through it all with than Mark. Granted there are days that I could happily run him over and nights that I put up the "cootie pillow" between us in bed, but he is my rock. Always.

Here is the song...

I've been feeling so yucky from this cold and having him say this to me was probably the greatest thing ever.

I love you, Marky! And you're still my one.

Oh my gosh how sweet! What a great man. My theory on marriage is that when you get married you are marrying someone who can weather all the storms that come, not 'settle' into some calm perfect life where everything is great. So much goes wrong in life. I think are partners are who we choose to face those things with...especially those 'rough days with the kids.' I hope the kids are nice and rested tomorrow and give their mommy a break!

Omigoodness, how sweet is that...! That makes up for all the poopy diapers and lack of sleep, doesn't it?

Aw, that was genuinely romantic, as opposed to the sort contrived expression of romance that Hollywood would have us believe are the stuff of love. Frankly, if my husband ever sprinkled rose petals around, my reaction would be, "I'm telling you here and now, I'm not cleaning that up." In part because real life? Too much realism for that kind of romance.

But what your husband did was truly romantic, and the fact that it came at the end of a long day makes it that much more so :-)

Thank you, ladies! My husband is not overly romantic at least not in the "movie version" sort of way. He gives fantastic neck and shoulder massages and unbelievable foot rubs! I actually like his way better!

Essie! Have you had your baby yet??

Uplifting post Nicole. And what a super young family you've produced between the two of you!

Men often find it difficult to utter words of love ... even though they wish they could. The method your hubby adopted says it all - and that's great.

Hey Nicole! I realize I already posted here (and it's still a romantic story!) but I wanted to let you know, I replied to your Richard III question...at length (as is my way...heaven help us all).

I was so very pleased to see the question, by the way. It's always fun to find a fellow history fan :-)

Philip! Thank you for your kind words. My husband is not huge romantic at least not in the traditional sense but I think his way is much better. A song is so much longer lasting than rose petals on a bed! And the mess...I am not cleaning that up! Besides it is the smaller things that only I observe that really push home how he feels. His willingness to go to the yarn shop (again! does that make 3 times this week?!) And to the bookstore.
Sometimes those loud, sweeping, public gestures are for appearances only and at home the person does not treat you as well.

My dear Land of Shimp! I am thrilled to talk about history with someone! My husband is a fountain of knowledge about history but it is from a completely different time and place to what I read about. I can respect his section and we have great fun telling each other tales and I have even read some of his favorite books. But it is great to discuss my favorite section of history with someone familiar with it. Thank your for the book suggestion, I have it on order!

My poor husband is waiting for me to finish up because we are going for a ride...I like to take rides in the car (and no, I don't hang my head out the window like a dog!) If the weather is rainy or snowy we taje a ride with the kids. We especailly like to drive fast through puddles so the car gets covered in water. Weird? Yeah..but we sure do get a kick outta it!

I thank all of you for commenting on my post and visiting my blog. I've been lazy and sick lately so I haven't done much. I love going to each of your blogs. I don't have much of a social life since I have 3 kids under 5 but going to your blogs each day sure makes me feel like I have friends! And intelligent friends too!
